Anaesthetists are physicians who are responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of patients undergoing all surgical procedures, the management of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit, and the relief of acute and chronic pain. The Oman Society of Anaesthesia and Critical Care was conceived as an organization dedicated to promoting the highest standards of care in Oman on all of these fronts.

The society is committed to raising the standards of the specialty by fostering excellence through continuing medical education, supporting research, and promoting undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The society strives to encourage specialisation in this specialty, and further public awareness of this field.

It is the purpose of the society to associate into one organisation all physicians who are engaged in the practice, or otherwise have an interest in the specialty of anaesthesia, pain management, and critical care medicine.
